If you read my “passions” page, you’d know that I am passionate about education. Malala Yousafzai, 18, is also passionate about education.
Malala is from Mingora, Pakistan. In 2012, Malala was shot in the head by a Taliban member while she was on her way to school. Fortunately, Malala survived and is able to share her story with others.
Malala has earned the title leader for many reasons. For starters, Malala always stood up for what she believed in. Malala was aware of the risks she was taking by going to school as a woman in Pakistan. However, Malala was devoted to her schoolwork and never let fear get the way in her dream of receiving an education.

Malala has also inspired girls around the world to stand up for themselves and not to be afraid to use your voice. “We should not wait for someone else to come and raise our voice. We should do it by ourselves. We should believe in ourselves. Yes, we can do it. One day you will see that all the girls will be powerful; All the girls will be going to school. And it is possible only by our struggle; only when we raise our voice” (Yousafzai). This quote further elaborates on the idea that girls too can be powerful by standing up for what they believe in and by taking action on their own, not waiting for someone else to try to make a change.
Another demonstration of leadership by Malala is the stand that she took for a positive change. Some leaders only advocate for and endorse certain groups, people, or ideas to gain public approval. Malala simply wants education to be available to everyone, which in turn could benefit everyone.
I, along with many others admire Malala for her urgent demand for positive change and for the risks she has taken to advocate for this change. Malala never asked to be known as a leader, but the impact she has had on the lives of people around the world and the changes she has already made certainly cause the public to deem her as a leader.
